The Society’s celebration of St. Andrew’s Nicht on November 30 began with a gathering of members and guests at our building followed by a parade to\u00a0the Fort Orange Club led by the pipes. The evening’s program included the naming of the Society’s library in honor of Norman S. Rice who began his thirty-fifth year as the Librarian\/Historian on that evening. Speaking in praise of Mr. Rice’s work in the Society and in the Albany community were Mrs. Tammis Groft, Executive Director of the Albany Institute of Art and History, Mrs. Jane Schneider from the New York State Library, and the Honorable John “Jack” McEneny, retired member of the New York State Assembly, local historian and Honorary Member of the Society. The library dates to 1903 when Andrew Carnegie, an Honorary Member of the Society, presented a gift to purchase books for the library.\u00a0Past Presidents Peter McLetchie and Joseph Shook organized the presentation to Mr. Rice on behalf of the membership of the Society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
