The Society welcomed 18 soldiers of the Royal Regiment of Scotland on Monday, September 5th<\/sup>, 2016.\u00a0 The canoeists arrived at the Corning Preserve\u2019s Colonie Street boat and canoe launch about six in the afternoon, after padding down from Stillwater.\u00a0 They were piped ashore by our Society Piper who played the tunes of glory: they are the tunes of the Scottish Regiments that were predecessors of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.<\/p>\n

Then they were whisked up to the Rooms where a our members gave them a warm reception and hosted them for a light supper.\u00a0 The commander of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, presented a handsome plaque from the 6th<\/sup> Glasgow Battalion to the Society.\u00a0 Our President graciously received the plaque.<\/p>\n

The Scottish soldiers retraced the historic journey from Montreal to New York.\u00a0 On their way south the Scots participated in a memorial at Fort Ticonderoga and spent a night at Fort William Henry, before paddling to Stillwater.\u00a0 The guests then paddled to Albany, which was the winter quarters of the Royal Scots from 1757-1759. After a warm reception at the rooms, the friends from the Royal Regiment of Scotland motored to Stuyvesant, NY for the night.<\/p>\n
