President’s Message<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Greetings Gentlemen of the Society:<\/p>\n

I am truly honored that you have shown your confidence in my ability to carry out the duties of the President of the Society. My goals are to contribute with as much effort and effect as my predecessors. When I look at the people who were President before me I am impressed with the ability and results that these men have achieved. It is not only the officers but all of the members who have made this society such a wonderful organization. It is with great anticipation that I watch to see what we as a group can accomplish. To mimic John F. Kennedy it is not to ask what the Society can do for you but what you can do for the society.<\/p>\n

I think that one of our high priorities will be to recruit and utilize new members, especially younger members. They will carry the Society into the future. Let us all do our best to increase the membership of the Society.<\/p>\n

The committees all have a need for new participants to carry out all of the responsibilities that they have. Please donate some time and effort to repair and improve the Rooms.<\/p>\n

Just a reminder that dues for 2016 are now due. Please forward your dues payable to St. Andrew\u2019s Society of Albany, NY. Mail them to Charles Brown at Hugh Johnson Advisors, 80 State Street, Albany, New York, 12207. Amounts due are as follows: due in November: $250 for resident members, $150 for Resident members under age 35 and $50 for non-resident members. It is very time-consuming for the Treasurer and Secretary to repeatedly send out delinquent dues letters. Any member six or more months delinquent in payment of his fees, dues or assessments, shall be deemed to be not in good standing and he may jeopardize certain member benefits and rights. In the dues\u2019 notice there will be separate lines for additional contributions to the Society and to the Robert Tunnicliffe Heritage Foundation. These contributions are tax-deductible. Remember, the dues do little to keep us financially sound. Thanks to those members who have made extra contributions in the past.<\/p>\n

Malt Tastings \u2013 A malt tasting was held on December 15, 2016. We had a total of 22 members and guests. The Newells, Bruce and David, each presented a 12 year old single malt scotch. Dave presented a Dalmore and Bruce presented a Glenfarclas. The Glenfarclas was the favored of the two scotches presented. <\/p>\n

Just a reminder that the members\u2019 passwords for the web site were sent in August. Please check your e-mails for your password.<\/p>\n

UPCOMING EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The following events are scheduled:<\/p>\n

Executive committee meeting will be held on January 14, at 6 PM at the rooms.<\/p>\n

Meeting with Mentors will take place on January 14, 2016 at 6:30 PM at the rooms.<\/p>\n

Stated meeting of the Society will be held on January 14, 2016.<\/p>\n

Malt Tasting is scheduled for January 19, 2016 at the rooms at 7 PM.<\/p>\n

Burns Night is set for Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Colonie Country Club. More information will be forthcoming at a later date.<\/p>\n

The Tartan Day Parade in New York City will be this coming April 9th, a Saturday. A number of members have attended the past few years and have had a great time. More information on the parade will be forthcoming at a later date. For further information on events in the City, go to http:\/\/nyctartanweek.org\/.<\/p>\n

Jacobites, Clearance and Scots: We received notice from Ian Hill of the Heritage and Archaeological Research Practice in Edinburgh. Ian Hill writes:\u201d We are running an archaeological field school in the Scottish Highlands in June. Participants will be involved in researching, surveying and recording a series of historical and archaeological sites associated with the Jacobite rebellions and Highland Clearances of 18th century Scotland.\u201d For more information contact Ian Hill, Director at www.harparchaeology.co.uk.<\/p>\n

In a separate notice, we have been asked to advise you that International Summer School at the University of Glasgow is accepting applications for their Summer School credit-bearing programs. The address is
