The St. Andrew\u2019s of Albany library contains approximately 1400 volumes in 14 beautiful antique wooden bookcases that were removed from the old St. Andrews Hall and relocated to the Rooms at 150 Washington Avenue during it\u2019s renovation for the St. Andrew\u2019s Society home in the late 1920\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collection was made possible in part by a generous grant from\u00a0Andrew Carnegie at the beginning of the 20th\u00a0century. The primary focus\u00a0of the collection is all things Scottish.\u00a0Scottish poetry and history are\u00a0prevalent.\u00a0However, the collection also includes many volumes on local\u00a0and NYS history.\u00a0The library also includes early editions of the complete works of authors like Robert Louis Stevenson, Washington Irving, and\u00a0Thomas Carlyle.\u00a0Many of the volumes are\u00a0quite\u00a0old, some dating to the\u00a0early 1700\u2019s. Many are leather bound and include decorative book\u00a0binding and marbling that make them visually appealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Officers of the Society includes a Librarian\/ Historian who\u00a0maintains the collection and serves as the contact person should outside\u00a0individuals wish to use the library for research. The Library itself\u00a0includes a reading nook with a working fireplace and comfortable\u00a0seating where members might relax and\u00a0discuss\u00a0some of the fascinating\u00a0volumes in the Library collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
